It feels strange to be spending so much of this season isolated. While normally stores are buzzing with shoppers buying costumes and preparing their hauls for trick-or-treaters, stores this year are still full of socially distanced customers stocking up on masks, sanitizer, and soap. Many of the normal Halloween activities simply aren’t safe this year due to the pandemic. Just as how the rest of 2020 has been, making the most of Halloween will require a good deal of improvising and adjusting.

One of the main things that can be done to find some enjoyment in an otherwise dark year is the classic of watching scary and otherwise Halloween themed movies. Disney+ is a good source for family friendly Halloween films. Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Frankenweenie, Nightmare Before Christmas, and many more highlight their selection. A good place to check and see where your favorite movies of the season are streaming is Reelgood. They pull together the libraries of every major streaming service and make it easy to find whatever movie you’re looking for.

While there are significantly fewer ways to show off your costumes this year, there are still ways to make dressing up fun. Country Living and Good Housekeeping both have long lists of DIY costumes to try out. Of course there are also plenty of other resources with lists of things to try. Beyond lists that are already out there, DIY costumes are truly only limited by your imagination. Making your own costume gives you a good excuse to go back through things you already have or even go out and see what you can find within your budget to utilize.

It’s obviously a much different atmosphere this year than previous Halloweens. Typical parties and trick-or-treating just isn’t safe to do like it has been done. While this may seem to suck the life out of the season, there are still plenty of ways to make the best of an otherwise challenging season change.
