Recently, Kanye West revealed that he no longer allows his six year old daughter, North West, to wear makeup. This sparked an online discussion about when it is appropriate for a girl to begin wearing makeup. Many female participants conceded that they weren’t allowed to wear makeup until they were in their teenage years. This is common in many families around the world; however, have we thought about what drives parents to implement this rule? Some will say that wearing makeup symbolizes maturity, which is why young girls are dissuaded from wearing it. Others argue that makeup is something that should be fun and creative, which means young girls should be allowed to use it. There are fair points on both sides, making this discussion an engaging one. There is no right or wrong answer, as parents have the right to raise their child how they see fit. Which side are you on?
