While the weather continues to get colder as we approach the beginning of winter, COVID-19 has made it even harder for the homeless to maintain warmth as shelters are unable to be filled fully. With this in mind, it’s more important than ever for everyone to do their part to help those who have limited access to coats and other forms of winter clothing.

There’s been a new trend to get coats out to the needy that’s started in the past few years. As going face to face with people can be intimidating, we’ve started to see people hang their coats on trees for those who need them to take. This is an act that is both international and intergenerational. One of the cases where this was reported was a 10 year old boy in Tasmania. Things like this provides a way for those who may be uncomfortable with interaction a way to give back in their own comfort zones. During COVID, it can also provide an easier, safer hand off for those at increased risk.

This trend has shown a new way of direct action to give back. With face-to-face interaction being more dangerous, finding new ways of charity is becoming key. Utilizing this way of spreading jackets will greatly help those who are stuck in the cold this winter.
